After a succesful first edition of THE PIG AND THE LADY's MOVIE+DINNER pop-up with last month's Miyazaki Feast, where we presented the classic anime feature SPIRITED AWAY, we are doing another one on Mother's Day Weekend (May 11 and 12)!
Chocolats pour ma mere, a special Mother’s Day Weekend Pop-Up, is the name of this new edition of our Movie+Dinner series. This special 7-course menu (the final course is a take away gift) is inspired by Lasse Hallström's award-winning crowd pleaser CHOCOLAT starring Juliette Binoche, Alfred Molina, Judie Dench and Johnny Depp. The film is an adaptation of the Joanne Harris novel of the same name. It was nominated for 5 Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Actress and Best Original Score. Diners will be presented the film, while courses will be served during the film.
Chef Andrew’s menu is much more inspirational and connective to this film, with such inspirations coming from the French region on where the fictional town of Lansquenet-sous-Tannes is based, to the theme of Lent that pervades through the film, and the tumultuous give-and-take between tradition and the open-mindedness and liberation of personal freedoms of the 1960s.
The team also chose this film because it is not only about a strong-willed mother figure, it’s fun, thoughtful, comedic and romantic as well. It’s great event to take your mom, but also anyone who wants to go out and have a great time as well. We recommend husbands to take their wives out for being amazing mothers to their children.

Synopsis: 1960: Vianne Rocher and her young daughter are drifters who are met with skepticism and resistance when they move to a conservative town in rural France and open a chocolate shop during Lent. As Vianne begins to work her magic and help those around her, the townspeople are soon won-over by her exuberance and her delicious chocolates - except for the mayor, who is determined to shut her down. When a group of river drifters visit the town, Vianne teaches the townspeople something about acceptance, and finds love for herself along the way.
